Why Play Panda Social Club Was Created

Play Panda Social Club was created by neurodivergent Primary School Teacher, Dominic Collier, while working in the Disability space after noticing how difficult it can be for many neurodivergent children to stay connected with friends, especially during the school holidays.

Through his work in schools, Dominic saw that many children on the autism spectrum didn’t feel comfortable or safe in typical public spaces. Busy, unpredictable environments often made socialising stressful rather than enjoyable. Play Panda began as a small, informal play facilitation group for a handful of families who were looking for a safe place where their children could relax, be themselves and connect with others who understood them.

As word spread, more families wanted their children to be part of the program. Play Panda Social Club gradually grew to support more children, including families who self-manage or plan-manage their NDIS funding, while staying true to what mattered most: safety, understanding and genuine connection.

Over time, the program has helped children form friendships they hadn’t been able to build elsewhere. Some children who struggled socially at school found like-minded friends from other schools, which boosted their confidence and had a positive impact on their overall wellbeing.

While Dominic continues to work supporting children with Autism in schools, he is deeply passionate about creating spaces where every child feels accepted, socially capable and truly worthy of friendship.
